We connect through Mexico City several times a year and always stay in Accor hotels and we have mostly had good experiences, and one terrible one. The terrible experience we had was with Ibis Alameda. We had booked a refundable reservation mostly paying with points. We had checked in online ahead of time, but when we got to the hotel late at night they said they had cancelled on us and resold the room and were now full. The night staff was unhelpful and we had to find our own alternative option.
Without much Spanish you'll be fine with day staff, night staff needs less English proficiency. Ubers are perfectly fine, the last time we paid 170 MXN for a 25 minute ride to the hotel down town.
