From my perspective, I am searching for a resolution from Virgin that reinstates my flight (albeit with another carrier) in line with EC261 Regulations so that my plans in Shanghai (and flight connection onward to Tokyo via an Avios booking) are secure. One thing to raise is that as you have a specific set of timings, is that you may need to offer some flexibility if the proposed partner timings don't match up. i.e. travelling a day earlier than your current booking, or on the prior flight depending on their schedule. (This depends on how much time you had allocated in Shanghai between flights) Hopefully once they have a partner lined up, you can get timings and schedules aligned to work.
Finally, one very small point, just in case you need to complain to get resolution, you will be doing it based on your UK261 rights, rather than EC261.
