I like your post, it is provocative in a good way.
I'd respond, though, for the most part, it's not crappy US Marriotts giving a flying f*** about elite recognition using those signs, but properties in Japan and such which are known to have an extremely high proportion of elite guests.
You know, if the Omaha Marriott puts this up on a Sunday night, I'd be skeptical, too...
