Getting to Nimmo Bay — the good news is you just have to get yourself to YVR, they manage transfers from there. If you don’t live near YVR this probably means flying there, then two short hops in two different (Small) planes to Nimmo:
— eight-seat piper YVR South Terminal (not walkable, take shuttle or cab) to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island (70 minutes)
— Nine-seat Spruce Goose floatplane Port Hardy to Nimmo (20 minutes)
Flights included in your rates once you get to YVR.
If one is older and not especially fit getting in and out of these small planes can be both difficult and undignified. But, it can be done!
Recommend flying into YVR afternoon/evening before, overnighting at the YVR Fairmont which is a decent hotel, then continue to Nimmo the next day. Flight to Port Hardy leaves around 2pm. On the return, I did all three flights in one day.
Depending on weather, the layover in Port Hardy can be 1.5-4 hours.
P.S.: They are serious about the 35-pound weight limit. But have available for you onsite if needed, hiking boots, waders, wool shirts, sweaters, rainwear and the like.
