The next part of the victory lap was in Switzerland. We drove from Geisingen to Grindelwald with a short stop over in Lucerne for lunch. The Swiss really invested in tunnels, and although overall the drive was not too scenic, we did come across this stretch where the road tied itself into a knot. The secret is that the road loops around a hill and then passes through a tunnel.
We stayed at the Bergwelt Grindelwald which is part of SLH and formerly bookable using Hyatt points. It is a very modern hotel with a subterranean parking garage where they were kind enough to give me a spot behind a secondary security fence. I believe the hotel opened up in 2019 - straight into the pandemic.
With the car safely put away, it was time for a safe arrival drink.
The room was modern and was well equipped with a view. One minor complaint would be the lack of air conditioning. Easily overcome by opening the door to the deck at night.
I really love breakfast buffets, and this one was very nice.
After a hardy breakfast, we took a cable car to Pfingstegg and hiked for about 3 hours. The weather was fantastic and as always the photos in the Alps stop well short of doing any justice to the views.
On day 2 we drove to Lauterbrunnen and Interlaken.
