I wouldn't chase ALL status. If you're going to be staying at upscale hotels, I would expect good service from such hotels, regardless of the operator, regardless of your status in their program. I would choose your hotels based on where you wish to stay, not some loyalty program that may just disappoint you. If you happen to accrue status by virtue of your stays, then take advantage of whatever it offers. But to actively seek it is not something I'd do.
