After standing in line for a while I realized that waiting to be helped meant standing for several more hours AND being stranded overnight. So I found a Southwest flight to OAK and was in bed by midnight.

Someone else on the flight said a roving Delta agent had told her they would reimburse for flight rebooked on Southwest. Has Delta ever done that before? I hope the agent wasn't just making it up.

(This all assumes that Delta agrees with the DOT determination that the continued fallout is an event within the airline's control, which it seems to have.)
Well, those traveling between LAX and SFO should just be thankful that there are plenty of alternative airlines and alternative modes of transportation available (it's ~5 hours by car between SFO and LAX), none of which are particularly expensive. I'll reserve the pity for those on more complex, longer itineraries.
