Filled out the Missing Stay form. Marriott CSR quickly reached out to thank me for my loyalty before dropping a copy/paste telling me I forfeit all points and EQNs on my 5 night stay because one night overlapped with a previous stay in another country. So, if you follow the hotel's advice to book an extra day to ensure late checkout of the previous hotel and early checkin of the new one, Marriott will reward your loyalty by not recognizing any of the nights of the later (longer) stay. The long copy/paste could have been much better simplified as "book Hilton or Hyatt next time, Marriott doesn't want your money, fool".
Of course, unsurprisingly based on this nonsense, asking them to review the decision has led to no response back.
I'm sure this has been covered before in this very long thread but let's ask what would happen if you did the following: (1) You make your first reservation with Bonvoy for four nights in Taiwan. (2) You make a second overlapping reservation for night one in Malaysia as an unrelated guest without your Bonvoy number pre-paid through an OTA. (3) You make a third reservation from night two in Malaysia as normal through Bonvoy. The worst that can happen IMO is that you have to move rooms from night one to night two but maybe the front desk can resolve this on the ground without linking your two independent reservations on Marriott's system. It is of course ridiculous that we paying customers would have to devise such a workaround ourselves but slightly less ridiculous I feel than forfeiting the entire second stay.
