Its personal preference. And I personally prefer row 2 over row 1, because:
- Legroom at row 2 is fine, and you can stretch out under the seat in front. At row 1 you are limited by the bulkhead.
- Seats can be a little wider in row 2. In some aircraft row 1 has these fold-out tables stored in the armrest, making the seat narrower.
- Seats in row 2, on the older aircraft at least, allow the armrest to move a few inches towards the center seat (which is converted into a table). Gives a little extra seat width.
- I hate armrest fold out tables (in general). Almost always less sturdy to the point that often your classware isn't stable enough to not slide off with the lightest of turbulence.
- No luggage at your feet at row 1 (takeoff/landing) while row 1 has very limited bin space due to safety equipment being stored there too
