Do you want to fly to Sao Paulo GRU or CGH? TAM is stronger in CGH while RG is stronger in GRU. It also depends on the schedule/times you prefer. Also nowadays most of RG and TAM domestic flights are codeshare.

Although you are flying LX to Brazil, you can still buy the Varig Brazil Air Pass. You just dont get a discount. The prerequisite is that your residence is outside Brazil.
