From my limited searches, JAL tends to release award seats about 2 weeks before departure date?
Search on BA website or AA website. If you find availability there QR should be able to book. It is pretty BA simple.
It is significantly less miles to book with Qatar Avios vs BA avios. In my case I think BA was 2 x the mount of avios. Cash for taxes was the same.
