This comment made me realise my implication was (likely) incorrect. Since AC qualifies you for the following year, you don't need to meet the $60k MSR for the card for Y2. A$450 compared to C$6000 (plus however long you have to sit your butt in a seat) is 100% on paper worthwhile.

Having said that, AC benefits
​​​​​​ are somewhat limited on VA given the lack of luggage perks or other benefits compared to UA/SQ. So another thing to consider is the amount of AC specific travel that one would take in that 2nd year.
