Recent datapoint from three different trips for TPE same day/plane turnaround.

Trip #1 early 2024 - same day turnaround (not same plane), with baggage

This was the start of an ex-TPE TPAC trip. Started from HKG and asked agent if possible to check bags HKG-TPE//TPE-HKG-USA. They said yes it's possible and that bags would go directly to USA and skip TPE entirely. All boarding passes issued at HKG (HKG-TPE-HKG-USA), I met the MCT.

Trip #2 mid 2024 - CX494/495 same plane turnaround, no baggage

Was able to do OLCI for both legs so no need to see an agent at HKIA. There was an escort waiting for me at TPE. Not needed, I said.

Trip #3 recent - again CX494/495 same plane turnaround, no baggage

Was not able to OLCI for HKG-TPE but I was able to OLCI for TPE-HKG return sector. For HKG-TPE even self check in at airport failed.

Had to go agent for HKG-TPE checkin. Even the airport agent was getting an error as on the ticket I was using for HKG-TPE the return date was many months out and the system was asking for a visa. It wasn't picking up the same day return which was on a separate ticket. Agent was also getting confused and telling me that I can't use tickets out of sequence like this (I wasn't and it was nonsense) and finally called someone senior as they couldn't understand why the system was insisting on denying me boarding.

Senior person was able to manually update the system to show that I did indeed have a return flight within the no-visa window and correct the problem and issue the boarding pass at HKG. Said "I understand what you are trying to do".

This time no escort upon arrival at TPE but it's not required. During the day hours transit security is always open and completely empty. You can be back at gate <5 minutes after coming out. Possibly enough time to go to the lounge to have a bowl of noodles but not really if you're slow. If you make a dash for it then yes.
