It maybe UA's correlation study show those that buy refundable tickets have other chacteristic that UA considers favorable toward the type of customer UA is seeking. A "better" demographics.
So more than just refundable price. Perhaps buy later at a higher price? A more "desirable" customer?? A more "special" customer
