I seem to remember getting a large number of miles as an apology in a mass email sent to anyone that travelled on the affected dates.
Agreed that St. Regis Venice and Delta are both unlikely to make OP whole. I'm a little more optimistic that travel insurance would pay out, as I'm not sure an IT meltdown would qualify as an act of God.
