I just had my first Tapestry stay. I guess I don't get it. I stayed at the 'Hotel Trilogy Albany Airport, Tapestry Collection'. Is Tapestry supposed to be properties that don't meet the standards to be a Doubletree? (Which in itself is a brand with a lot of variation in quality).

I am not sure what this hotel was in a previous life (maybe a Holiday Inn?), but it was given a pretty superficial makeover. I liked the laminate flooring and some of the furniture was newer, but the AC units looked like they were from 1980, and there was just a general 'lipstick on a pig' feeling about the entire room. Lots of indication that it was an older property that had a superficial upgrade.

The restaurant bar area was promoted as fine dining, but I didn't bother to eat there or drink there. It just looked like an afterthought. Breakfast in the morning was good and pretty much covered by my $15 room credit. But it was pour your own coffee out of paper mugs from the lobby coffee station.

I looked at the website and Tapestry is supposed to be small unique and boutique hotels, but this one in Albany was a head scratcher.

Meanwhile, I also had my third Canopy stay (Dubai Al Seef, Tempe AZ, and now Portland ME). I loved the Canopy in Portland, especially for location, but, like the others, I think they sacrifice furniture style for comfort. Yes its a cool looking plastic chair. No, its not something you want to sit in and read a book. But I would stay there again.
