The flight isn't done until you're at the gate and the engines are shut down. Most career-ending mistakes are made while taxiing. Plus: "And after a flight like that you're often fried and need to spend the downtime getting ready for the next one."

I'm not saying it's ideal, but I can definitely picture myself in the same situation and making the exact same decisions.
