The ONLY option on UA.com is "Economy/Premium Economy" OR "Business/First" selection boxes. I cannot "deselect" premium economy.
As mentioned, they're separate choices in some cases, and I've actually run into that exact scenario, so it was intended to be helpful.

No; that would be unthinkable. If I search on united.com right now, for IAH to IAD, September 4, searching for
Y,B,M , I get a whole set of options, starting at $273. (They're B fares).
