Sounds like 2 data points now of being able to use 1000 multiples.
Interestingly on my last booking, I was able to use about half for points and while the remaining balance was less than 40E, it wouldn't let me use more points. At the hotel they were able to take the points for the remainder. My guess is that some of the remainder was tax and for some reason you can't do that during booking? It's so annoying as its always a hassle at the desk to get points credited.
