If on 1 ticket, by all means book the short connection. You may end up making the flight; if not IB will rebook you to the next flight. Choosing the 4 hour layover from the outset when a legal shorter connection is available, makes no sense IMO (why choose the worst case scenario from the outset?)

If it was just me, I would do the short layover in a heartbeat
My hesitation - we will be traveling with our 5 year old daughter and wife - so we won't be as fast with the little one, and 2 - I would hate to get split up if we can't all get on the next flight during peak tourist season.
