On the other hand, it would be sensible for UAs tell FAs if this is true so that when the "special pre-order only" item is put in front of one pax, there's an explanation available for the one next to them who asks the FA "I didn't see that unidentified melange of items offered as a choice - why not?" A: because it was available pre-order only.
