Yes, it can easily happen, happened to me the other week. I’d picked 12A two months previously and had it until check in opened where I’d been moved back. Asked at the airport if row 12 was still in Club, she said yes, but on boarding club was only up to row 10 and someone else was in ‘my’ seat.
