Ahhh Mannn... why do I never get to fly on cool flights like that!!!

Indeed, as stated its a way around ATC restrictions that could cause delays or cancellations. There were a few threads n the DL forum about this. Usually occurs in the NE corridor between BOS and RDU, which makes sense when you consider the flight density in that area.
