I don't think you're quite getting my question/point here. Obviously I wouldn't lose 1k, since even without the credit card spend, I'd be 19k+54. But I've already earned 40, and would gain 280 more for reaching 1K. That much is totally clear. But my point is, when I do hit that 24k+54 (for the sake of argument on the very same segment) -- Am I getting 20 additional pluspoints or 40? I believe it should be 40 (for a total earned amount of 360), but it's ambiguous whether I would only get 20 (for a total of 340). The way I read the rule, they should STOP counting card spend for additional PQP at that point. But the way you describe it, they wipe away the extra 3k PQP completely for the purpose of calculating the additional points. That seems at odds with the footnote, though I do see some level of ambiguity.
