I've had quite a time with UA today as I attempt to cancel the return leg of a TA issued international (ex-US) booking.

After assuring me that I would get a travel credit with United (not the TA) I had the agent cancel my return flight (2x LH flights and 1x UA domestic flight). They were booked by a travel agent into U class. I did not receive a confirmation email when he canceled them so I asked him to look into it a bit more which caused him to realize that the money was sent back to the TA. As he told me that wouldn't happen I asked to have the flights reinstated. He said he would and put me on hold. 20-30min later a rep from Lufthansa answered the phone... great.

I called UA back and the rep I spoke to was very surprised to hear that a UA rep would do that and offered to either reinstate the flights or issue a credit valued at far less than what the first agent quoted valid only from the INTL country to the US. I opted to have the ticket reinstated. She got the segments back and the ticket reissued with a new 016 eticket# in Y class (instead of U).

My question now is, can I cancel this ticket into a FTC or ETC that can be used on any UA flight?
