Did a 5-night stay at the Spring Hill Suites Revere Beach.
tl;dr - rooms fine, location fine, service quite bad
PROS:
- Newish hotel, brand-standard SHS, basics in the room work fine. (AC, wifi, etc.)
- Nice location for visiting Boston. Train is right out the back door of the hotel, literally 2-minute walk. (Wonderland station, the end of the Blue Line.)
- A free shuttle, albeit an infrequent one, to/from BOS.
CONS:
- Hotel directly told me that Award stays are never upgraded unless I spend more points. Status tier does not matter. I know SHS doesn't really have big upgrades to give, but they were very clear on this point.
- The restaurant and coffeeshop that are advertised on the official Marriott.com web page for the property do not accept room charges.
- General professionalism of the staff is quite low.
- After leaving the hotel, I was sent a bill that included 5 nights of parking at $15/nt. No one at the front desk ever asked me about parking, we did not have a car, and I never entered or exited the hotel through the parking garage. I phoned immediately for a refund of the charges and was told it would be done that day. A week later, it had not been done. So I phoned again, escalated to a manager to have it done, and they said they'd do it later that day. The following day, I was refunded a flat $70. In other words, I was very purposefully charged $5 for ....something. I've escalated to corporate at this point. The $5 almost pisses me off more than inaction, because it's clearly a calculated bet that I'll let it drop. It's a malicious, intentional scam at this point.
Maybe in a couple years I'll consider going back. The points rate was reasonable and if you have 4 people in the room, the SHS layout is pretty nice. It would basically be a wager that staff turnover has taken place. The physical rooms and location aren't bad. But you really don't get a professional Marriott vibe from this one at the current time.
