Is it a software update that makes it so only one video can be loaded on each plane at a time? Why can't they upload the new video on all a/c at once? Not complaining since I also prefer the old video, but it creates a consistency issue imo.
How content is loaded depends on the IFE platform -- and is a manual data transfer process (either swapping what amount to hard drive modules in line-replicable units (LRUs) or physically connecting the aircraft to upload content... In both cases generally only something that happens at hubs/line maintenance stations and in the LRU version there's some amount of delay as LRUs get pulled from aircraft, have the new content pushed onto them, and then placed on the next aircraft. (The same reason why, for instance, on DTV equipped aircraft the 'monthly selections' on the loop channels don't roll over exactly on the first of the month.
I expect that around the end of this month the new video will get greater play on DTV aircraft -- though I have seen it once on a DTV 737 (I was paying particular attention to see if they left the "search for the behind the scenes" bit in on an aircraft with no way to search...that was omitted)
