True to an extent, but HA gets a fair amount of engagement and uptake of its fairly lousy credit card, and it would behoove AS to be careful and thoughtful about what people value in the HA program. Where AS is fairly focused on its elites, HA delivers limited value to the elite program but seems to generate a degree of loyalty and credit card spend from people who come to Hawaii regularly but not often enough to generate meaningful status. There's also a significant portion of local flyers who are loyal to the local company and value HA status even though it doesn't deliver much. AS should be mindful of anything that looks like a takeaway even if the AS program is much stronger overall. They may already be screwing up by ending mileage upgrades and segment-based status, among other things.
