I was finally able to get an answer from the Facebook team after a couple of weeks of back and forth and them not understanding the issue:
"When the point of commencement (POC) is Canada, the system utilizes latitude fares, which are filed only in Y and B classes. However, when the POC is Europe, the latitude fares are available across all Y cabin classes. When the client is shopping ZRH-YYZ-ZRH, the lowest Latitude fare option is offered. In this case it was in Q class, which isn’t eligible for an instant eUpgrade."
So confirms that if it doesn't book into Y or B, you won't get instant upgrade - how they square that answer with Latitude being immediately upgradable is a whole other kettle of fish in terms of not delivering on what you promise.
Did they say anything about this in relation to R space (or did they specifically mean instant upgrades with R0) because I could understand non Y and B latitude not getting hidden upgrade space but removing access to the unlimited clearance window for them aswell would seem like false advertising and basically turn them into flex fares with lower eupgrade requirements when it comes to upgrades. I guess there’s hardly been any R space on these routes so data points are hard to come by and the end result is effectively the same but I’d be curious to know regardless.
