I almost always do this when I want a late checkout at a non IC property. If leaving card details any invoice is taken care of, the only painful part is having to contact the hotel to get invoice copies.
Because if you don't check out, the hotel (rightly) assumes you're still using the room. I've seen late checkout charges being applied in cases like this before.
