Hotels in BAH are not expensive, the city is close to the airport and the souk is interesting. I have never flown Gulf Air, but I'd be very surprised if their catering is worse than AY's. If I were you, I'd pick Gulf Air. Better food and drinks, and probably not a super-early departure ex-BKK.
