Honestly making yourself “pick pocket proof” (ish) is going to be the most vital thing here
I am a late 30s female who grew up in Europe
take steps such as having a cross body bag, ideally with zipped pockets (inc internal)- I hold the cross strap as I walk so it can’t be cut off. Separate out cards and cash into different pockets. Leave items such as passport in hotel safe if possible (noting legal requirements to carry it in some countries). Walk with purpose, appear to know where you’re going, don’t “look like a tourist” (as far as possible)- try to blend in. The look I go for is essentially “foreign exchange student”. Sundresses kind of suck for this but there may be options, I particularly like hiking type shorts which often have an internal zipped pocket near the waistband to keep an extra card and cash.
in some places I’ve gone to the effort of having a separate, obvious decoy wallet (hopefully to distract the crims from the “real deal”) but not everywhere
(Touching wood while I say this), I’ve travelled 6 continents and never been pickpocketed, robbed etc. My father was almost lifted in around 1994 in Rome which taught me a few things I guess
