Daytime or early afternoon NYC-LHR flight

Hi all, I realize this topic has been brought up before but I just wanted to learn your thoughts on it. Like many of you, I sleep terribly on an aircraft even in J. I have done quite a few TATL crossings in the past, mostly in J and mostly on red-eye. Typically my first day in Europe is wasted no matter how hard I try. Now I am looking to either taking the early morning (before 9AM) or the early afternoon flight to LHR from NYC:
Pro for BA178 (7:55AM departure):
  • First flight of the day, very unlikely to be delayed due to ATC, weather etc.
  • No need to sleep on the plane.
  • Arrive in LHR at 7:45PM, still plenty of time to make to the hotel.

Con for BA178:
  • Since it leaves so early, I either have to leave my house by 5AM, or spend the night before near JFK.
  • Waste a PTO day

Pro for BA184 (5:40PM departure):
  • Could head to the airport after work, save a PTO day.
  • May have time to enjoy the lounge.

Con for BA184:
  • Arrive in LHR at 5:50AM, too early to check-in at the hotel.
  • Any delay would result in arriving LHR past EST bedtime.

What do you think? Happy to hear everyone's thoughts
