Is there an expensive way? There sure are. Hire a limo. Pay one of those pedi-cab guys to pedal you all the way to Jamaica. Hire a handsome cab by Central Park and ride the horsey to your terminal. Lots of expensive ways, but I don't think that's what you meant.

Thank you for your input.
Being an early flier, I run into this situation all the time. Luckily for you, you're flying from JFK. The simple answer is: subway to the AirTrain. Take the E to the JFK Sutphin Blvd station in Queens, transfer to the AirTrain. Total cost: $7 ($2 for the subway and $5 for the AT).

Unfortunately, at that time in the AM, the E is still running local (until 5:30 AM). Otherwise, it would be about 30 minutes from Port Authority to Sutphin Blvd. The AirTrain from the subway to your terminal should be about 10-15 minutes tops. Figure around 45 minutes on the E and another 15 on the AT, for a total of an hour.

As for frequency, the posted schedule says 15-20 minutes apart, but I'd plan on 30 minute intervals so figure on getting to Port Authority around an hour and a half before you want to be at the terminal.
