Cash upgrade is €1027, bidding starts around €400 so don’t think this option is worth it unless we get to airport and there are seats left. Thanks for the tip about checking for reward flights, all showing as sold out.
Your bid will get accepted usually a few days before the flight, if it's accepted. If not, you don't get charged and that's that. I imagine an Airport Upgrade would potentially be more expensive than a bid.
If you want to guarantee it, upgrade with cash or use Avios. If you want to gamble, go with the bid.
