AA has handled it the opposite way. Business comes with everything you'd expect, seat selection, lounge access, etc. But then they offer a Business Plus fare, which gets you access to certain first class amenities
While it certainly provides an example of how Delta could provide value add services for non-Business Basic fares, AA is a bit different because those were meant to "replace" their international First class product and as such the majority of the infrastructure to support it already existed.
