I don't think it is a case of AVH not liking the 787. At Austrian Airlines they ran quite a few widebodies under his leadership. It is really a case of it being a tough industry to make a profit in and the competitive environment WS has been in the past few years has made if difficult to expand the widebody fleet profitably. An interview relating to the original announcement he made in 2022 had a quote on widebody operations for WS "It’s an opportunistic business and we do it as long as it makes sense": https://www.flightglobal.com/network...150446.article. I see AVH as a pragmatist as opposed to an idealist, an approach that is more likely to lead to a profitable operation.
