I would get noticeably worse service from hotels when I was using citi's 4th night free back in the day. Sometimes hotels were even explicit about it "because you booked through Expedia..."

I've had different experiences than you.I found great success with citi prestige 4th night.Though of course game over
I wouldn't book on Expedia either but I am open to others.After decades on the road very few hotels
have ever given me the cold shoulder even when I booked on a 3rd party site.
Especially after spending considerably in their property where I had a history of being a good guest
