To me points purchased from Aeroplan would count as "earned under the Aeroplan Program". This is mostly to prevent PYB from being used from Amex or Cap1 point transfers.
Yeah, I saw that on the chase site and that's why I'm asking. I also think that they just dont want people to transfer in points from Amex or elsewhere and use it for PYB but it is not 100% clear.

I agree that it's not super clear, but I am 100% sure the intention is not for you to buy points for X and immediately PYB for Y, where Y>X.
I'm not sure that they are against points bought under the Aeroplan program or I think they would say that. (They explicitly mention points converted from other programs.) But since it is not clear I am hoping somebody here has bought points and used them with PYB as a datapoint...
