The $15k and $3k spend do overlap, so $15k total spend. Keep in mind you also get a free night certificate once you hit $15k.

The downside is that this number is extremely misleading. The fine print says you get 2x instead of 1x...so if you were to spend $15,000 you would get 15,000 points anyway. Also if any of that spend is in a bonus category you dont get the bonus points.

The way I prefer to view it is, spend $15k and get 45k points and a FNC...since personally I think the bonus categories suck, so I would never actually spend $15k on this card without the bonus points.
