is inconsistent or unreliable wifi becoming more common, or a regular thing?

in the past two weeks i have flown WN four times. on those four flights, the wifi for in-flight entertainment worked flawlessly just once. on another flight, there was no wifi at all. on two flights, it would come and go, making movies or tv unwatchable (yet, the flight tracker and the page for credit card signups worked just fine). on my most recent flight, i tried signing up for the paid internet, but even that page had trouble loading.

i haven't flown much since pre-covid, but i always felt problems with onboard wifi were the exception, not the rule. is that no longer true?
