I am sad to reports that my parents missed the connection in IAH. Ua160 arrived on time but only passport line took approx 80 minutes amd they were out of the plane right after C pax. There was plane from DOH, AKL and 6 different planes from mexico in front of them.
10 minutes were lost at luggage claim belts due to confusio whether they need to recheck the bags - it turned out that they were sent through with no need to pick them up and recheck.
I don't think you mentioned in your original post that this was I:I; that's a shame -- this is a great feature of connecting at IAH vs other hubs, and I'm sure someone would have pointed this out had you noted it.
Security line for was another at least approx 45-60 minutes. I want to praise and thank all people in line for letting them pass ahead of them. (First time I heard my mum to peak 'fluent' english)
The whole security was done for them in just 10 minutes.
In this situation, it's best not to follow the path of least resistance route to that horrible recheck, but to exit completely and come back in through regular security. But 10 minutes is fine, it likely wouldn't have been any better....
