We tend to prefer to stay longer in cities and to truly settle in, as opposed to trying to fit in all the highlights. For example, if a friend asks me what to do with 10 nights for a first visit to Europe, I might recommend 7 nights in London and three in Paris, or 7 in Rome and three in Florence.
We will have 10 nights and I know we will only want to visit two cities. Which cities would you recommend and and which is the best hotel in each one?
you're not going to settle in to delhi, mumbai or really any city in india. I think you need to realize this will be completely different from visiting europe. I would suggest reconsidering the strategy. If you insist, probably delhi at oberoi and Jaipur rambagh palace, incorporate taj mahal as a day trip from delhi. Unless you have a particular interest (ie kerala, yoga, tigers, varanesi, ruins etc) .
