On a recent flight in Feb 2024 from DFW-YYZ-YOW-YQB, I did not have a check in but since the over head space was full, they checked in my carry on bag all the way through to YQB. I asked them to short check in till YYZ and they said they do not short check in. Either check in through to YQB or they will deny boarding.
