AMS and CDG can only get you to the “usual suspects” of BOM, DEL, MAA, and BLR; KE flies to more secondary Indian cities such as ATQ, HYD, but going to India from the US East coast thru ICN is the very long way roun and not competitive with the ME3 offerings.
For people on the US West coast, ICN is the shorter way. Australia/NZ have the same problem as India where their smaller cities and domestic routes are not served by ST.
We'll have to wait until they publish a route list to see if this solves anything. And even then, it would only be for O&D traffic to/from smaller Indian cities; it won't help for touring the country once you are already there.
