Warning, bit of a rant incoming

but Amex's business model in the Nordics and especially in Finland is just truly weird. They earn money by shops accepting their cards and people spending on their cards (and of course the AF). Yet, for shops there are no perks for accepting Amex, except "yeah our average customer makes bigger average purchases" and there are no incentives for people to spend on the card.
I don't see them being in the market just out of goodwill, and also I don't see them being here for the sake of making a relevant profit. Why not try to make more profit by serving customers what they want and encourage them to spend, and to get more stores to accept Amex, or just exit the market. Now it's kind of in the middle and nobody is happy. Add to all of this the aggressive marketing to constantly try and get new members. If you are planning to exit, why bother?
