I'm always amazed at how complicated airlines make their rules and how, as a reasonably educated person, I have a very hard time understanding the verbiage in the rules. I'm equally amazed at how agents in the same airline give different answers- Maybe the rules are just a bit too arcane or poorly written when even the employees whose job is to explain the rules simply don't know.
