Misleading cxl wording leading to $900+ cash charge

I booked two awards and had to cancel one on the day of arrival.
Email confirmation shows:

"CANCELLATION POLICY:
90 PCT DPST AT BOOKING/90 PCT OF STAY IF CXL"

So, "I am going to forfeit/loose 90% of my points used" my thinking goes.
Instead now I see a charge of over $ 900 on my credit card from the hotel.
Meanwhile the points charge/deduction from my Discoverist account is gone, e.g. the ponts returned.

Even the cancellation email states completely misleading cxl policy above again!
Pretty much p.oed. !!!
Do I have any recourse?
