Not necessarily a bad thing for me, as the former works out much cheaper than the latter (assuming upgrade availability, which I can check before booking).
The problem is upgrading using miles to a GuestSeat is not possible at the rate on the miles calculator, all you will get is a cash to miles conversion, so 200k or so miles for an upgrade on a European route.
