The new miles earning structure is definitely leading to interesting scenarios where it's both cheaper and better for tier miles earning to book Economy Deluxe and upgrade using miles, compared to booking Business Value.

Not necessarily a bad thing for me, as the former works out much cheaper than the latter (assuming upgrade availability, which I can check before booking).
